Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy
Case Statement

Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy will be nationally recognized for excellence through contributions of its faculty, staff, and students to innovative pharmacy education, provision of service to mankind, leadership within the profession and healthcare community, innovative research, scholarly activities, caring pharmacy practice, and an unwavering commitment to the values of a Christian education.

Growing the College of Pharmacy

So that we can meet the fundamental goals of the College of Pharmacy several ways have been identified in which support for students, faculty, programs, facilities, and equipment improvement will play a crucial role in our future.  While Lipscomb University has funded many of the college’s basic educational programs, services, and facilities through an initial financial commitment, a true margin of excellence can be achieved and maintained only through private gifts from alumni, friends, and corporate partners.

Support for Tomorrow’s Professionals:

Offering endowed scholarships and fellowships has become increasingly important in ensuring that the College of Pharmacy is able to attract the brightest students—for whom competition from other institutions is intense—and prepare them to compete and lead in this changing professional environment. Student support has become an even greater need as tuition has increased dramatically over the past several years.

For students to benefit from residencies and other valuable learning opportunities available through the College of Pharmacy, they must be able to commit the majority of their time to educational and professional pursuits. Scholarships and resident support enable them to do so.

Support for Faculty:

To ensure that the College of Pharmacy serves the state of Tennessee, the nation, and the world by training tomorrow’s leaders, we must offer endowed support to compete for and retain the strongest faculty. Whether they are teaching the basics of pharmaceutical care or emerging therapies, leading health-policy research, or strengthening Middle Tennessee’s economic base the college’s faculty are making a real difference every day in the health of our society.

Improving the College’s Facilities and Equipment:

In addition to scholarship support we must be able to offer attractive learning resources to encourage students to choose Lipscomb University and achieve the lofty goals they and we have set. We must offer modern, well-equipped facilities so instruction can be accomplished at the most advanced level possible. The college will establish a modern, flexible Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory to help develop critical skills in our students and community practitioners who turn to the college for professional development.

The college will renovate the current Burton Building, a centerpiece of the campus. Ample laboratory space will be located in the building in addition to all faculty staff, and state-of-the art classrooms. The building will provide wireless internet access and online drug-information literature, individual locker space, meeting rooms, and a study area for all our students. Renovated student space that provides a high quality of life for our students is essential and has been identified as a major goal of this campaign.

Unrestricted Support:

Unrestricted funds provide a meaningful, assured, and stable margin of excellence that enables the College of Pharmacy to respond quickly and flexibly to special opportunities and needs as they arise. The unrestricted support is particularly helpful in funding critically needed equipment upgrades and student initiatives at both the professional and graduate levels.

The Time is Now

Timing is everything as competition is keen for the brightest students and the best faculty. Private endowed support for students and faculty, and assistance with improving the facilities and equipment they need, is essential to helping the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy launch into the margin of excellence required to stay among the very best.

Our world needs skilled professionals who are comfortable and competent in the nation’s new technologically rich and information-driven workplaces. Knowledgeable scientists are needed to conduct vital research, building and improving the science and technology infrastructure that is central to Tennessee’s economic prosperity and health. The students we train today may even be among tomorrow’s College of Pharmacy faculty. Your help is critical—for the college and for enhancing the role of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in maintaining and improving the health of our society.
